BYK®-4500

BYK®-4500 is an adhesion promoter for aqueous emulsion paints and alkyd emulsions applied on aged coatings. It is a solution of a high molecular weight block copolymer. BYK-4500 improves adhesion, especially the wet-adhesion of aqueous systems on critical substrates, such as e.g. old alkyd resin coatings. This also applies to substrates that cannot be sanded previously because accessibility is difficult. The additive has no influence on drying behavior and storage stability of the aqueous system. The properties like e. g. hardness, flexibility, gloss or tendency to yellowing of the dry film are not influenced when using BYK-4500. BYK-4500 is easy to incorporate, and the additive is VOC-free.

Company

BYK has an established history of innovation such as being the first additive manufacturer to begin using Controlled Polymerization Technology (CPT), launching the first rheology-modified wax emulsion, and being one of the first companies to use nanotechnology for improving Coatings properties. BYK invests approximately 7.5% of its earnings in R&D—three times more than the industry average.
