These can be lacquers based on acrylic dispersion, wood glazing, wood and furniture lacquers, printing inks, and industrial finishes (air-drying and stove cured enamels). In comparison with powdery matting agents, Deuteron MM 677 offers the advantage of dust-free handling. The product can be easily incorporated by all common dispersing processes. When producing clear varnish, only a small rate of shear is required to incorporate Deuteron MM 677. This prevents forming of micro foam in the production batch. Even when Deuteron MM 677 is added to the mill base or the dispersion-medium, overmilling is practically impossible due to its excellent shear stability. The matting liquid is kept free of wetting agent and binder. Their presence usually limits the compatibility. Waxes or similar products are not included either. This allows for the use of Deuteron MM 677 in a wide field of applications. Due to its excellent fineness the product can be used as a matting additive in many applications. Even in higher dosages, the products specific oil absorption value does not lead to a considerable increase in viscosity. Flexibility of the coating will be insignificantly effected by the use of Deuteron PMH C as matting agent. Being a thermoset, Deuteron PMH C increases the blocking stability of coatings in which the employed binder shows a tendency towards thermoplasticity. Deuteron PMH C is resistant to temperatures above 200 °C. Color fastness and weather resistance are excellent. The use in exterior applications is possible without limitations. The coatings are recoatable. Deuteron PMH C is wax-free. Deuteron PMH C can be used as a matting agent in aqueous and solvent based coating systems. A suitable matting agent combination can be created for solvent free, UV curing varnishes with the additional use of SiO2. With its favorable oil absorption value Deuteron PMH C is ideal for coatings with high flexibility like coil coatings and leather finishes. This can lead to higher mechanical and chemical resistances, which are not attainable by conventional means of adjusting “soft touch” and matting. This product is suitable for all radically curing coatings, especially 100% UV-systems. Deuteron SO 100 is intended for coatings which have to offer a special feel and matting up to a “soft touch”. The functionality allows the polymer to cross-link with melamine or aziridine. The use of aziridine will result in a short pot life and will cross-link at room temperature. Formulations using aziridine will require a plasticizer or coalescent solvent to aid the film formation of the dried coating. Formulations using melamine and PTSA (Para-Toluene Sulfonic Acid) are stable for a minimum of thirty days. The starting formulation requires a web temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit to activate cross-linking of the resins. An increase in PTSA will lower the temperature required to activate cross-linking. Larger amounts of PTSA will increase the hardness of the dry film. There are no plasticizers or coalescent aids required for film formation when using a melamine resin with Ottopol 523. view less

This combination formulates the fastest and most resistant coating. The ambient curing happens very quickly, in 15 minutes the film will have excellent water resistance. Allowing the film to cure for four hours will result in a film that has over 100 double rubs acetone resistance and also resists staining. Detergents and cleaners will not remove this film. It is outstanding for making compounds resistant to oils, solvents, and greases. Because of its low solubility in petroleum hydrocarbons, ProFlex 8 may be used to produce grease and oil-resistant coatings and adhesives. Nitrocellulose lacquers resistant to grease and aliphatic hydrocarbons may be made by combining ProFlex 8 with ProFlex MH (a sulfonamide-formaldehyde resin).
