Benzophenone 4, also known as sulisobenzone, is a member of a family of similar molecules which are generally employed as UV absorbers. Benzophenones are most often found in sunscreens but can be found in personal care products like nail polishes, and shampoos. The FDA has approved benzophenone 4 for use in OTC sunscreens at concentrations up to 10%. As a sunscreen, it works as a secondary UV absorber and is combined with other UV absorbers to provide full protection.
Benzophenone 4 is more often used as a photoprotectant to maintain a products color when in clear packaging. view less
