Specialized milling processes are employed to retain the high aspect ratio of these needle-shaped products. The fine-grained, high aspect ratio, wollastonites are specially developed for applications demanding increased strength, scratch and heat resistance. In plastics, Casiflux® F 75 is used in automotive applications such as passenger compartment trims, instrument panels, bumpers, air conditioner/heater housings, battery support trays, wheel covers etc. In addition, wollastonite is used as a partial replacement for glass fibre in reinforced plastics and resin composite applications. In paints and coatings, reduced ‘mud cracking’ is achieved with Casiflux® F 75. Both the reinforcement and passivating ability of wollastonite are successfully harnessed in formulating anti-corrosion paints, whilst increased crack and chip resistance is achieved in powder coatings. An economical workhorse, Unispar® is particularly effective in strengthening and enhancing a variety of industrial and maintenance paint systems. Hard and angular, Unispar® PG particles will create a rigid packing network that helps to produce tough coatings which resist blistering, blooming or frosting. High Mohs hardness also enables formulators to create coatings with excellent abrasion properties for better stain and burnish resistance. The lower oil absorption of these ultra white fillers permits higher loading levels without adversely affecting viscosity, and the opportunity to maximize colour strength and intensity with only small increases of colouring pigments.
