This modification is done to increase the molecule’s stability and enhance its transport through skin, as pure Vitamin C is easily degraded. In the body, the modifying group is removed and Vitamin C is restored in its natural form. Thus, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid retains the benefits of Vitamin C, such as antioxidant activity. Furthermore, it is even more potent in reducing skin darkening after UV exposure. It even has some additional effects, not observed in pure Ascorbic Acid, such as promoting nerve cell growth or reducing chemotherapy damage. Because of its degree of propoxylation, this product presents itself in the form of oily liquid of low viscosity with excellent spreading and emollient power over the skin and hair. It is used in cosmetic formulation such as bath oils, sunscreens, hair products, lotions, and creams. When applied as an emollient, ALKOMOL® E 10 provides excellent spread over the skin, lubricating it without leaving excess oil. Prevents and avoids drying of skin, leaving it soft. In sunscreens acts as a solvent of the active ingredient, and facilitate application (spreading) over the skin. It forms a protective film on the hair, protecting it from dryness caused by the presence of other solvents in these formulations.
