They are free of water and contain emollients and a high percentage of ethanol, which mainly acts as solubilizer for the organic UV-filters. Because of the presence of ethanol, transparent sunscreen sprays available in the market are prohibitive for consumers like babies and kids. Due to this Sasol has developed a formulation concept to get water-free transparent sunscreen sprays without ethanol and a SPF of up to 50. This formulation concept is based on COSMACOL esters (α-Hydroxy acids) and ISOFOL types (Guerbet alcohols). The COSMACOL esters are emollients with moisturizing and anti-aging effect. The ISOFOL types act as emollients. Combinations of COSMACOL esters and ISOFOL types enable to solubilize liquid as well as solid organic UV-filters. Sunscreen sprays based on this formulation concept can be used as pump sprays as well as in the presence of propellants and leave a non-tacky soft skin feel. view less
