The modified epoxy resin Beck...view more 1- Or 2-Component Wash Primer (Formulation #4.1.1) is a guideline formulation used to exhibit the equivalent performance for SHIELDEX® anti-corrosive pigments compared to a commercial wash primer based on zinc tetroxychromate. The modified epoxy resin Beckopox EM 460 is recommended in combination with the standard polyvinylbutyral resin Mowital B 30 H to ensure good wet adhesion properties. Silquest A 187 Silane promotes wet adhesion properties especially on galvanised steel and aluminium. The formulation can also be used as a one-component system. In this case, Part B is premixed and subsequently added to part A after dispersion. After mixing the two components and letting these prereact for a minimum of 30 minutes, the formulation was tested on solvent degreased cold rolled steel, galvanised steel and aluminium substrates applied to a dry film thickness of 10 – 15 microns by bar coater. The formulation was also tested with a 40 micron acrylic/isocyanate top coat. view less

Beckopox EM 460 together with Phenodur PR 263 is recommended in combination with the standard resin Mowital B 30 H to ensure good wet adhesion properties. Silquest A 187 Silane promotes wet adhesion properties especially on galvanised steel and aluminium substrates. The combination of Alcophor 827 with SHIELDEX® anti-corrosive pigments improves hot salt spray resistance over steel substrates. After mixing the two components and letting these prereact for a minimum of 30 minutes, the formulation was tested on solvent degreased cold rolled steel, galvanised steel and aluminium substrates applied to a dry film thickness of 10 –15 μm by bar coater. Acronal S760 is a self cross-linking styrene-acrylic dispersion which can be cured at room temperature by the addition of acid catalysts. Pre-neutralisation of Cycat 500 and phosphoric acid with AMP 95 and ammonia is necessary to ensure paint stability. The addition of AMP 95 also helps to heat stabilise the paint during milling. Higher PVC-values reduce the salt spray performance, and values around 20 to 30 vol.-% are suggested. Alternative fillers such as talcs, calcium carbonates (Millicarb B from Omya) or dolomites (Microdol extra from Norwegian Talcs) or combinations thereof can be used satisfactorily. view less

The addition of Alcophor 827 is beneficial in two respects: the pH is stabilised at 6.5 which would otherwise be buffered by SHIELDEX® anti-corrosive pigments, and it also improves the corrosion resistanceafter hot salt spray and humidity exposure. The addition level of SHIELDEX® anti-corrosive pigments should not exceed 3 wt.-% to ensure that the pH of the final formulation does not exceed 7. view less

Little or no cosolvent is necessary for this resin. The combination with Lipaton SB 5521, styrene-butadiene dispersion leads to improved film properties (higher flexibility and overcoatability) and water resistance. The addition level of zinc oxide is optimum at 1 wt.-%, and is recommended in combination with SHIELDEX® AC 5 anti-corrosive pigments in this case. view less
