This product functions as an anionic and catatonic wetting and dispersing additive to improve the wetting of pigment surfaces by preventing interfacial tension between the hydrophilic pigments, extenders, and the binder, and by stabilizing the pigments through electric charge repulsion forces. AFCONA – 5209 provides anti-settling and anti-sagging properties in bentonite gelling, and finds application in primers, decorative paints, marine paints, and heavy-duty paints, and in long, medium, and short oils, NC, TPA, acid curing, polyurethane, and epoxy systems. view less

The resulting product is a wetting agent with high efficiency toward acidic based pigments used in solution acrylics, polyesters, alkyds and epoxies. It also has a weak affinity for alkaline pigments, which should be considered when both acid and base pigments are present. view less
