Carbon, Activated

Carbon, Activated, also known as active carbon or activated charcoal, is a amorphous form of carbon that is obtained by the destructive distillation of wood, nut shells, animal bones, or other carbonaceous material. It becomes active once it's heated to 800 to 900 degrees Celsius with steam or carbon dioxide. It is used in the purification of gas, gold, and water. It is also used in metal extraction, sewage treatment, air filters in gas masks, and respirators.
