It is the highly refined unsaponifiable fraction of lanolin, composed of a complex mixture of cholesterol, lanosterol, and their di-hydro derivatives plus straight and branched-chain aliphatic alcohols. Lanolin Alcohol is one of the most efficient w/o, non-ionic emulsifying agents, and increases the water-absorbing capacity of hydrocarbon mixtures to a greater degree than any other high molecular weight alcohol. Ecolano™ AL-E is the alcohol grade rich in cholesterols. Because of its high cholesterol content, it has very high water retention and emulsification properties compared to other higher alcohols, and its less stickiness than lanolin provides a good consistency and fine texture when used in O/W type emulsions. view less

The wool is collected and washed, followed by a refining process to produce a solid oily wax carrying a yellow hue and mild characteristic odor. Sheep naturally secrete a substance to protect their skin and wool from environmental factors similar to humans producing sebum. Translated directly to “wool oil” in Latin, Lanolin has been used for millennia as it functions similarly to human skin lipids. Lanolin’s natural properties exhibit moisturizing and soothing capabilities, often used in personal-care applications targeting dry or damaged skin. Additionally, bulk Lanolin EP is commonly included in cosmetic formulations for nursing mothers, topical creams and ointments, and a wide range of everyday soap products. A variety of industries take advantage of this ingredient for its emollient, lubricating, and emulsifying properties. view less

Lanolin is naturally found in the wool of sheep and is steam-distilled extracted after the wool has been shorn. Liquid Lanolin differs from regular waxy lanolin as it has a lighter feel and the benefits of being a liquid. This is an ideal moisturizing agent and emollient, widely used throughout the cosmetic and personal care industry. It may also work as a water-in-oil emulsifier, a glossing agent, and a dispersant. It can be found in beauty products such as lipstick, balms, oil-based cosmetics, topical creams for dry or cracked skin, anti-chaffing preventatives, and hair treatments. Liquid lanolin has applications beyond personal-care purposes such as for industrial uses in cleaning solutions, including soap and dishwashing liquid. view less
