It is especially suitable for the curing of pigmented water-based dispersions (polyurethane dispersions [PUDs] or acrylic dispersions), the daylight-curing of PUDbased clear coats and for use in combination with light stabilizers. Other possible uses include thick-section curing, emulsion-type and 100 % UV systems. Irgacure® 819-DW is a dispersion of bis-acylphosphine oxide (BAPO) in water. It may be used in UV-curable formulations for clear and pigmented coatings on wood, metal, plastic, paper as well as for printing inks. For patent reasons, however, the use in dental applications is not allowed. It is very easily incorporated into water-based formulations and leads to stable dispersions. At low concentrations Irgacure® 819-DW exhibits an outstanding curing performance in highly opaque white and colored pigmented coatings or screen inks and leads to minimum yellowing after exposure to sufficient amounts of UV radiation.
