A biocide is an agent that destroys, neutralizes, and prevents harmful organisms using biological and chemical means. Some types of biocides are disinfectants, insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, preservatives, and antiseptics. Biocides are important across almost every industry, working to deter the effects of potentially harmful things like insects, mold, rot, and pathogens. Biocides work to kill bacteria, control health risks, and prevent consumables from perishing. The biocide market is enormous in the U.S, with growth in the last decade.
Biocides exist in the form of paints, coatings, and resins for use in industries in which the control of microbes and pests is necessary. Hospital walls and floors can use biocide paints to decrease the likelihood of mold, mildew, toxins, bugs, and other issues. Microbiocidal paints have the power to kill microorganisms that come in contact with the painted surface. High-performance paint biocides can keep mold, mildew, and algae growth away from important projects.
