Did you know? There’s a better alternative to traditional organic additives for reducing coefficient of friction (COF) in high-speed form-fill-seal (FFS) packaging operations.
Slip performance of organic additives, including erucamide and oleamide, degrades over time and under elevated temperature conditions – like exposure to hot foods during the filling process. Organics can migrate between film surfaces during rolling and storage, potentially affecting downstream processes such as printing, metallization and sealing. Plus, they are usually added to all layers of multi-layer film constructions – and that means larger quantities are needed, driving up costs.
Dow Corning has developed a silicone masterbatch that delivers excellent slip performance for low-density and linear low-density polyethylene (LDPE/LLDPE) film used in FFS operations and lamination. This new development yields high efficiency rates because it is only added to the “outer” layer of a multi-layer film.
