More than 26,000 new coatings materials have been added to the industry-leading search engine.
March 10, 2017 – Overland Park, KS – The result of a two-year process, UL is pleased to announce the addition of more than 26,000 paints and coatings materials, ingredients and formulations to its powerful Prospector search engine. This content addition represents 540 new suppliers within the Paints & Coatings, Adhesives & Sealants and Graphic Arts & Inks industries.
Prior to this project, the only Coatings data listed in Prospector had been provided directly by suppliers and manufacturers. In order to include as much materials data as possible, the Prospector Operations Data Team and an outside vendor combed hundreds of global suppliers’ and manufacturers’ websites to find additional products to list within the search engine.
This addition allows formulators, product developers, engineers, and more to access accurate and reliable technical information for tens of thousands of products not previously listed. Contact information for hundreds of new suppliers is also available, allowing industry professionals to connect to ask questions and request samples.
“The intention was to increase our overall coverage of the Coatings industry within Prospector,” said Chris Gleeson, Lead Content Development Analyst. “The addition helps grow and strengthen what Prospector already had to offer, thereby enhancing & improving Prospector users’ experience. The biggest impact will be the amount of information that is now available. Over 26,000 new products is a huge upgrade.”
Maintaining a comprehensive materials search engine like Prospector requires a lot of behind-the-scenes work, in order to keep resources seamlessly available for users. The Operations Data Team will continue to monitor and maintain these new listings, including adding, editing and deleting products as necessary, as well as proactively seeking out additional new suppliers’ product data to add when possible.
