3-O-Ethyl-L-Ascorbic Acid, or Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is a molecule produced by modifying Ascorbic Acid, commonly known as Vitamin C. This modification is done to increase the molecule’s stability and enhance its transport through skin, as pure Vitamin C is easily degraded. In the body, the modifying group is removed and Vitamin C is restored in its natural form. Thus, Ethyl Ascorbic Acid retains the benefits of Vitamin C, such as antioxidant activity. Furthermore, it is even more potent in reducing skin darkening after UV exposure. It even has some additional effects, not observed in pure Ascorbic Acid, such as promoting nerve cell growth or reducing chemotherapy damage. ALKOMOL® L 408 is a nonionic compound resulting from the reaction of lauryl alcohol with 4 moles of ethylene oxide and 8 moles propylene oxide. The lipophilic portion of the molecule comes from the fatty alcohol and propylene oxide and the hydrophilic part from the addtion of ethylene oxide. This structure allows for low foaming power, excellent wetting properties and good detergency.
This product can be used in both Paints and Coatings and the Industrial and Institutional Industry. In the I&I it is recommended as a wetting agent in rinse-aids, automatic dishwashing detergents and low foam I&I degreasers. ALKONAT® L 90 is a grade of ethoxylated alcohol obtained by the reaction of naturally-derived lauryl alcohol with ethylene oxide (EO). It is an excellent surface tension reducer, and also provides high detergency and wettability. This product has 38% carbons derived from natural sources. It can be used both in household and personal care products.
ALKONAT® L products act as emulsifiers, solubilizers, thickeners, foaming agents, detergents, dispersants and humectants. They can be used in cream cleansers, essence fixers, dyes, perms and bleaches for hair, lotions and deodorants and also as viscosity agents and co-surfactants in shampoos and bathing gels.
