The low viscosity of this fluid makes the ingredient an extremely good spreading agent, which creates non-tacky semipermeable moisture barriers in skin creams and lotions. Low-viscosity dimethicone can also eliminate the whitening or ‘soaping’ effect seen in W/O emulsions. In hair care, this material can be used in serums or conditioners to give hair a smooth feel. Soluble in alcohols and volatile silicones. It gives excellent softness, shine, a soft-slippery-silky feeling, healing effect for shampoos. It is characterized by low surface tension and a high spreading coefficient. Due to their flexible polymer backbone, dimethicones have high permeability to gases (e.g. water vapor, oxygen), which allows respiration of the skin. TEQFEEL 1000 is used in a broad range of personal care formulations as an emollient. It allows formulators to adjust spreadability and conditioning effects.
