TBHQ, or tert-Butylhydroquinone, is a highly effective antioxidant with an E-number of 319. It produces no discoloration or flavor changes in food, and extends shelf life substantially. It is used as a preservative in a wide variety of food products around the world, especially fish. Also excellent antioxidant performance can be achieved when useing TBHQ as an anti-oxidant in vegetable oil.
