KBM-5103

KBM-5103, 3-acryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, is a novel silane coupling agent having a highly reactive acrylic group. It is a useful modifier for many high performance products including optical fibers, acrylics, epoxies, and composites. When compared to Shin-Etsu’s KBM-503, methacryloxypropyltrimethoxy-silane, KBM-5103 is a significantly more reactive monomer. For example, thermosetting resin products reinforced by fiber or cloth treated with KBM-5103 have significantly improved mechanical and electrical properties. KBM-5103 is also especially effective in UV cured systems.

Company

Shin-Etsu Silicones produces silicones and silicone products for the Paints and Coating Industry. They provide first rate silicone compounds to develop and increase the reliability and all around performance of a product. One such product type, Silane Coupling Agents, are used as a mediator that helps improve and support bonds between inorganic and organic materials. This allows for surface modification and resin modification to take place. It also aids in the increased adhesion and the enhancement of the mechanical durability of composite materials.
