As a modern anti-settling agent, it acts via adsorption phenomena on the pigment surface and effectively prevents pigments from settling and forming hard, difficult-to-stir sediments even in low-viscosity coatings such as, e.g., dipping paints and wash-primers. This is possible even in the presence of specific high density pigments based on lead, chrome, barium, iron and titanium. In addition, the uniform electrostatic charge imparted by EFKA® FA 4600 prevents re-agglomeration thereby counteracting any premature settling of the pigments. EFKA® FA 4600 is an easy to use liquid anti-settling agent, the particular advantage of which is that it is effective over a broad range of polarity. It can, therefore, be used in a nitrocellulose lacquer, the solvents of which are mainly polar, as well as in decorative paints which only contain white spirit, i.e., a non-polar solvent. EFKA® FA 4600 is also an excellent anti-settling agent for low-viscosity printing inks, e.g., flexographic and gravure. It has been used with great success for years in the paint industry as a special agent for preventing sedimentation. EFKA® FA 4601 was developed as a result of detailed studies regarding interfacial activity. The mode of action of EFKA® FA 4601 systems results from the high surface activity of its constituents with almost all pigments. If processed properly, the individual pigment particles are coated with a monomolecular layer of adsorbed compounds which prevent agglomeration into larger particles, with the result that the fine particles remain in suspension and no caking occurs. This viscous liquid is a blend of selected fatty alcohol sulfates. EFKA® FA 4601 does not contain any alkali ions, and it is effective in most paints, provided they are not distinctly polar in their composition. view less

Due to its chemical structure, EFKA® FL 3740 modifies the surface tension of the coatings. It also eliminates or reduces cratering, fish-eyes and orange peel; improves the flow, dispersion and floating behaviour, prevents air entrapment and optimizes wetting of the substrate. EFKA® FL 3740 is also ideally suited to be used in the manufacture of powder coatings or binders for powder coatings. For the preparation of a master batch, it is recommended to use a mixing of 9 parts of polyester resin with 1 part EFKA® FL 3740. This mixture is perfectly suited for direct application in the premix and extrusion process after melting, homogenization, cooling and granulation. The drawbacks of leveling agents applied on SiO2 are avoided. In particular, pigmented and transparent powder coatings with excellent levelling properties are obtained for the production of weatherproof powder coatings. view less

The paint industry uses defoamers to ensure that air bubbles occurring during application of lacquers and paints can escape from the film while still wet. It improves mar-resistance, slip and smoothness, decreases the tendency to floating of pigments and the sensitivity to air-draughts. EFKA® SL 3031 is compatible with all medium- to high-polarity solventbased systems. In unsaturated polyesters, e.g., UV-curable, EFKA® SL 3031 improves slip and smoothness of the surface with no influence on curtain stability when applied by curtain coating. The sensitivity to air drafts when sprayed or poured will be reduced by EFKA® SL 3031. This product also improves leveling and mar resistance and acts as an antiblocking agent. This is particularly advantageous in PUR systems based on hydroxyl acrylics. Due to its high surface activity, EFKA® SL 3031 can interfere with intercoat adhesion when recoated without sanding. If air is introduced by the application equipment, small amounts of defoamers such as EFKA® PB 2020 and EFKA® SI 2022 should be added. view less
