Benzophenones are most often found in sunscreens but can be found in personal care products like nail polishes, and shampoos. The FDA has approved benzophenone 4 for use in OTC sunscreens at concentrations up to 10%. As a sunscreen, it works as a secondary UV absorber and is combined with other UV absorbers to provide full protection. Benzophenone 4 is more often used as a photoprotectant to maintain a products color when in clear packaging. view less
