Dynasylan® 40 es un líquido incoloro de baja viscosidad con un contenido de SiO2 del 40%. Los ácidos polisilícicos pueden tener suficiente contenido de grupos etoxilo que se pueden activar mediante ácido o hidrólisis catalizada base. La condensación comienza incluso durante la hidrólisis, con la formación de moléculas poliméricas relativamente largas. Durante el almacenamiento de estos hidrolizados, la condensación continúa hasta que se forma un gel en el que la tasa depende del grado de hidrólisis. Dynasylan® M se hidroliza fácilmente agregando agua. Dado que los 4 grupos metoxilo pueden participar en esta reacción, Dynasylan® M es considerado tetrafuncional.
