It can be use in almost all common paint systems, both water based and solvent based as well. This product has the following properties: stabilisation of viscosity against air oxidation, prevention of skinning, improved wetting, prevention of settlement, reduction of dispersing time, reworking of thickened batches, removal of floatation phenomena, and promotion of flow and gloss. The stabilisation is based on the oxygen binding properties of the antioxidant. The wetting component of ANTIGEL® KF-D reduces the interfacial tension between the usually hydrophilic pigments and the hydrophobic binder. The pigments are well distributed resulting an optimum depth of colour. Dispersion time, floatation phenomena and sedimentation are reduced and gloss is increased. Sedimentation is largely avoided. This is possible even in the presence of specific high density pigments based on lead, chrome, barium, iron and titanium. In addition, the uniform electrostatic charge imparted by EFKA® FA 4600 prevents re-agglomeration thereby counteracting any premature settling of the pigments. EFKA® FA 4600 is an easy to use liquid anti-settling agent, the particular advantage of which is that it is effective over a broad range of polarity. It can, therefore, be used in a nitrocellulose lacquer, the solvents of which are mainly polar, as well as in decorative paints which only contain white spirit, i.e., a non-polar solvent. EFKA® FA 4600 is also an excellent anti-settling agent for low-viscosity printing inks, e.g., flexographic and gravure. The mode of action of EFKA® FA 4601 systems results from the high surface activity of its constituents with almost all pigments. If processed properly, the individual pigment particles are coated with a monomolecular layer of adsorbed compounds which prevent agglomeration into larger particles, with the result that the fine particles remain in suspension and no caking occurs. This viscous liquid is a blend of selected fatty alcohol sulfates.
