Glyoxylic Acid 50H is an organic acid with hair straightening, relaxing and conditioning effects. As the smallest aldehydic acid has the molecular size to penetrate through the cuticle layer of hair shaft and attach to the keratin. Glyoxylic acid is capable of acidic cleavage of the bonds that link the polypeptide chains of keratin together followed by formation of new cross-links. The carboxylic and aldehyde groups of glyoxylic acid react with the amine and sulphur-containing groups present in hair keratin resulting in the formation of stable bonds. It provides long lasting straightening effect of hair fibres, improves manageability and appearance without causing damage to the hair and scalp irritations typical of hydroxide-based or thioglycolate products. Glyoxylic acid is a high performance hair conditioning agent which can be used to create new hair straightening systems that work at acidic conditions with a permanent relaxing action on tightly curled, wavy or frizzy hair. view less
